Work and Holiday Visa

For young adults who want an extended holiday and to work here to fund it


Basic Eligibility

• Must be 18 to 30 years old (inclusive)
• Must have a passport from an eligible country
• Must not be accompanied by dependent children



First Work and Holiday visa
This visa lets people 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) have an extended
holiday in Australia and work here to help fund their trip.


• You must have a passport from an eligible country
• You can work while you are here
• You can apply for a second Work and Holiday visa if you meet certain

Stay  12 months
Cost  AUD450


Processing Time
• 75% of applications in 38 days
• 90% of applications in 55 days



Second Work and Holiday visa
This visa lets people 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) who currently
hold, or who have held, a Work and Holiday visa, have a second working
holiday in Australia.
• You must have a passport from an eligible country
• You can do any kind of work while you are here
• You must have completed 3 months of specified subclass 462 work while holding your first 462 visa

Stay  12 months
Cost  AUD450


Processing Time
• 75% of applications: 38 days
• 90% of applications: 55 days



Third Work and Holiday visa
This visa lets people 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) who currently hold, or who have held, a second Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa, have a third working holiday in Australia.
• You must have a passport from an eligible country
• You can do any kind of work while you are here
• You must have completed 6 months of specified subclass 462 work

• If in Australia, hold a substantive visa or your last substantive visa expired less than 28 days ago

Cost  AUD495


Processing Time
• 25% of applications: 18 days
• 50% of applications: 73 days

• 75% of applications: 10 months 

• 90% of applications: 20 months

General Information

The Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) allows Vietnamese participants to

· stay in Australia for up to 12 months on that visa

· work in Australia, generally for up to six months with each employer

· study for up to four months

· leave and re-enter Australia any number of times while the visa is valid

· apply for a second or third Work and Holiday visa if you have completed specific types of

work in regional areas .


The program year commences on 1 July each year and ends on 30 June the following year. There is

a limit of 200 first Work and Holiday visas granted to Vietnamese passport holders during this

program year.

Application process for Vietnamese citizens

The first step in the process is for applicants to obtain a Letter of Recommendation from the

Department of Overseas Labour (DOLAB), Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam

(MOLISA). DOLAB’s website will advise you when the registration process is open each year to

register your interest in obtaining a Letter of Recommendation.

Australian Citizens

As this is a reciprocal arrangement, Australian citizens are able to apply for a Work and Holiday Visa

to Vietnam. There are 200 places allocated for every program year.  For more information on the

program and the visa application process, please directly contact the Vietnamese Embassy in

Australia or the Department of Employment (DOE), Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of

Vietnam (MOLISA). More information can also be obtained from the Australian Embassy in Hanoi by

completing an Immigration Enquiry Form.
